We've all been in gym class when maybe a basketball or something hits a pull station. This is a pull station. Or maybe you know a smoke detector set off and the horn strobes. These are horn strobes here. So the horn strobes all start going off, right? The strobe start flashing, the horn starts sounding, the fire doors in the hallway will all close, and the fire department shows up automatically. Some things you probably don't notice, but the fans may shut down. But how does that work? How does, I guess, our goal is to figure out how does the panel do that? When the fire department shows up, how do they know where to go? How do they know if the fire was in a gym or if it was in a mechanical room somewhere? How do they know? So there are two types of basic fire alarm systems. There's what's called conventional, which is generally the older kind, and then addressable or intelligent. And there's some difference in terminology between addressable and intelligent, but from my experience, the terms are basically interchangeable. So we're going to start with the more basic kind. We're going to start with the conventional panels. So down here, I drew a little school building. Think of it as the most basic type of system you can have, right? So there's an East Wing, a center wing, and a West Wing. I drew a little panel here that has three zones, and there would be a lot more stuff on a fire alarm panel.
